Dermal fillers can help to erase or soften fine lines and wrinkles and restore lost facial volume. Dr. Sood treats many patients with dermal fillers over their lunch break since the procedure has virtually no downtime.
Some patients, however, may experience some swelling and bruising at their injection sites after receiving dermal fillers. To reduce swelling and bruising, simply follow these 5 tips.
1. Avoid Blood Thinners for One Week Before Your Appointment, If Medically Possible
While we know this advice isn’t plausible for everyone, if you don’t need blood thinners for a medical reason, then avoid taking them the week before your injection. Dr. Sood doesn’t want to give a blanket, “No blood thinners” prescription if you are taking them to prevent a serious medical condition, such as a heart attack or stroke from an existing blood clot.
2. Don’t Drink Alcohol 24 Hours Before Your Appointment
We understand that our patients want to celebrate their future, younger-looking self, but you will have to refrain from cocktails, beer, and wine before your injection day. If you drink alcohol within 24 hours before your injection, you could increase your risk of swelling and bruising after your appointment.
3. Take the Natural Supplement Arnica
Arnica, which can be purchased in your local pharmacy or natural food store, is a natural supplement that helps reduce bruising. So long as you don’t have any medical reason to avoid this supplement, you should begin taking it 2 days before your appointment to help reduce bruising after the injection of your dermal fillers.
4. Use Cool Compresses After Your Injection
Cool compresses are the go to for reducing swelling after facial injections, too. After your injection, you should intermittently use cold compresses at your injection site to reduce any swelling that naturally appears. We will give you an ice pack to apply at your appointment.
5. Avoid Supplements that Thin Your Blood
It may be wise to avoid supplements that thin your blood such as turmeric, ginger, vitamin E, and cinnamon to name a few.
Ask Dr. Sood If You Have Any Additional After Care Instructions
Before your dermal filler injection takes place, Dr. Sood will meet with you so he can understand your full medical history, what medications you currently take, and equally important, discuss your aesthetic goals. During your appointment, Dr. Sood will answer all of your questions about the procedure as well as aftercare treatment.
Whether you’ve been getting injections for years or you’re ready to schedule your first appointment, we want to help.
