CoolSculpting has become one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures currently on the market today. With over six million treatments having been performed, people world-wide are using CoolSculpting to freeze unwanted and stubborn fat. It is both safe and effective.
On any given day, you can bet someone is in our office gathering information or receiving treatments to help them trim and slim their physique. Unfortunately, we encounter many patients who have been misinformed about what CoolSculpting can do for them. This may lead to negative feedback about this amazing and effective procedure.
Myth #1: CoolSculpting is a gimmick
This non-surgical treatment was first FDA-cleared in 2010 using a technology called Cryolipolysis, discovered by a group of Harvard scientists. Their research revealed that using specific temperatures in a controlled setting would induce fat cell death and the body would then metabolize and clear these dead cells by natural processes.
Having researched many non-invasive technologies that claimed to reduce fat, I concluded that with all of the science backing it up, CoolSculpting was the best option for my patients. The results are proven, noticeable, and lasting. Each treatment will reduce fat in the treated area by 20-25%. Repeated treatments to the same area are an option if further reduction is desired.
Myth #2: CoolSculpting is ideal for everyone.
CoolSculpting is designed to eliminate stubborn fat that resists all efforts through diet and exercise. Very often a patient will come in our office who has been evaluated for CoolSculpting at another facility. Upon our evaluation, we may find that the patient is not a candidate for CoolSculpting for the goals they wish to achieve. I would never want to mislead anyone in thinking this procedure will be a weight loss option, reduce cellulite, tighten large areas of loose skin, or remove abdominal redundancy.
I work alongside my patients and listen to what they desire, create a customized treatment plan, and help set appropriate expectations. If they are not a CoolSculpting candidate, I will work with them to offer other options.
Myth #3: CoolSculpting is Painful
Our office carries both the legacy and the most advanced applicators that are designed for a more comfortable treatment. While the CoolSculpting procedure may cause some discomfort, most patients do not describe it as painful. It is normal to experience some
tenderness, itchiness, and possible bruising in the treated areas following the procedure, but any of these mild side-effects resolve over time.
Myth #4: CoolSculpting takes a long time.
With two CoolSculpting devices and the most advanced applicators, you can treat select areas in as little as 35 minutes! You can expect to begin to see results in a few weeks but the full results will show in 2-3 months as our body clears away all of the fat cells.
