Many women shy away from getting breast augmentation because they fear it will increase their risk of breast cancer. Furthermore, patients should avoid reaching their arms above their shoulders for the first one to two weeks.

If patients do not heed these directions, their implants can shift, creating a lopsided appearance. Additionally, the wound might not heal correctly, which could further alter the appearance of the breast.

In most cases, yes, it is still possible for women to breastfeed their babies after having breast augmentation. This is because Dr. Sood usually places the implant below the breast tissue in a way that does not interfere with the breast’s ability to produce milk. However, some specific placements can hinder a mother’s ability to breastfeed. For women with infants or women who are thinking of getting pregnant, Dr. Sood will discuss these issues in the initial consultation at his office.

Because pregnancy can alter the shape and size of the breast, this may cause the implants to change in appearance. To preserve the appearance of the implants, Dr. Sood generally recommends women wait for breast augmentation until they are done having children. Otherwise, they will need to wait at least six months after the procedure if they plan on getting pregnant.
