Correct Droopy Eyelids and Restore a Smoother, More Youthful Look with Eyelid Surgery in Haddonfield and Linwood, New Jersey

As we age, our eyelids can unfortunately stretch over time. Another problem? The muscles supporting our eyelids can weaken. This gradually leads to a drooping-eyelid look on one or both eyes. At the same time, downward-shifting tissues can cause a pouchy or baggy look on the lower lids. Happily, there is a solution to all of the above! Interested in improving the appearance of your eyelids with blepharoplasty at New Jersey’s Sood Center? As a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Mohit Sood and his team provide this cosmetic surgery to improve the appearance of tired eyes.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty—the technical name for eyelid surgery—is a cosmetic surgery procedure that enhances the appearance of the area around the eyes by reducing bagginess and excess skin, as well as sculpting and shaping the remaining tissue. The goal is to give the eye area a more youthful and alert appearance, as well as to improve symmetry. While eyelid bags tend to form under both eyes, drooping often develops over just one eye or the other.

What Can Blepharoplasty Treat?

There are various concerns commonly associated with aging eyes, including excess skin and fat around the eyes, sagging eyebrows, drooping eyelids, and bags under the eyes. Blepharoplasty improves or gets rid of these concerns on the upper or lower eyelids to improve your vision or create a younger, more alert appearance.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

If blepharoplasty is being done solely for aesthetic reasons to improve your appearance, the procedure won’t be covered by insurance plans. Functional eyelid surgery, to address sagging tissue of the upper eyelid that hinders or obscures your field of vision, may be included. During your eyelid surgery consultation, we will explain more about what the costs will be, as well as options for payments and financing.

What Is the Sood Center Blepharoplasty Experience?

Prior to your blepharoplasty, you will start by having an in-depth consultation with Dr. Sood and his team. He will be available to answer any questions you have and provide further details on what is involved in the procedure.

For the surgery itself, local anesthesia or sedation will be provided to numb the area and help you relax.

The exact steps involved in the procedure will vary depending on which areas are being treated. To address concerns on the upper eyelid, Dr. Sood makes an incision along the natural fold, then removes or redistributes skin, fat, and muscle as necessary, then closes the incision. For the lower eyelid, an incision may be made along the natural crease below the eye and similar steps are taken.

What Happens After a Blepharoplasty Procedure?

After eyelid surgery, patients can expect some temporary discomfort, swelling, and bruising. The recovery timeline will vary depending on how extensive the surgery was and your body’s natural healing process. Any side effects typically resolve within 10 to 14 days, at which time you’ll be more comfortable going out in public.
Within a few months, you’re likely to be completely healed. You may feel more confident after this surgery because your eyes will look younger and well-rested.

How Many Blepharoplasty Procedures Will I Need?

In most cases, just one blepharoplasty surgery will be adequate for rejuvenating the eye area and achieving your goals. Although the surgery won’t prevent the eyes from continuing to age, results can last a lifetime.
