Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure devoted to restoring one or both breasts to a more typical shape, appearance, symmetry, and size following mastectomy, lumpectomy, and similar breast cancer treatment strategies. The process can form part of your healing journey—both physically and emotionally—after breast cancer treatment.
Reconstructive surgery is also employed after damage to the breasts due to trauma, such as an accident. The procedure typically involves creating a new, intact, natural-looking breast mound, whether that involves filling in defects, creating the look of new breasts with implants, adding fat harvested from other areas, or some combination of the above.
Breast reconstruction is a highly individualized option for women who have undergone mastectomy, lumpectomy, and other procedures or treatments that have altered the look and feel of their breasts. Various reconstruction techniques can rebuild projecting chest contours, restore symmetry for patients who are no longer “balanced,” and create the look of areolas and nipples as desired.

Sood Center’s team, led by Dr. Sood, stays current on the latest breast reconstruction techniques so that the results—and the patient experience in achieving them—are maximized. Reconstruction is a unique process and procedure, with multiple variations, including immediate reconstruction handled in the same procedure as the lumpectomy or mastectomy and delayed reconstruction which happens during a second stage separate from the cancer-removal procedure.
Dr. Sood is also experienced in the various options for re-creating the look of beautiful breasts, including implants, fat grafting, and flaps. He will walk you through which options are available to you, which would best suit your goals, and what to expect from the procedure and results.
I had a breast augmentation performed by Dr. Sood at the end of 2013. My goal was to have my breast look fuller again after having breastfed 3 children. Dr. Sood was very helpful before and after the surgery. I am totally pleased with the results and have recommended several women to make an appointment to see Dr. Sood.”
